Yes! The steam engine and carriages that portray the iconic 'Hogwarts Express' were provided by West Coast Railways, operators of the Jacobite Steam Train. You can catch glimpses of them in beloved Harry Potter films like The Philosopher's Stone.

What filming locations will I see during the train ride?

During your train ride, you will pass by a number of iconic Harry Potter filming locations:

Glenfinnan Viaduct: Fans will recognise the viaduct's stunning arches against the dramatic Highland backdrop from the second film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Loch Shiel: Also known as Hogwarts Lake, or Great Lake, Loch Shiel featured as the majestic outdoor area of the school campus in the movies.

Eilean Na Moine: Located on the picturesque Loch Eilt, Eilean Na Moine is wee island that is famously known as Dumbledore's grave featuring in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Are Jacobite Steam Train tickets always included in the tour price?

Unless otherwise specified in our inclusions, Jacobite Steam Train tickets are not included. We offer various tours where you have the option to include the Jacobite Steam Train experience at an extra cost.

How long is the Jacobite Steam Train journey?

The Jacobite Steam Train ride lasts approximately 2 hours, providing ample time to enjoy the views of Scotland's stunning west coast between Mallaig and Fort William.

What ticket class do you use?

All our Jacobite Steam Train tickets are standard class. Upgrades are not available.

Can I choose my own seat?

Your seats for the Jacobite Steam Train are pre-assigned, ensuring that groups can sit together comfortably. If you and your travel companion(s) have booked separately and wish to sit together, please inform us at least 24 hours before tour departure.

Are there toilets on the Jacobite Steam Train?

Yes, there are toilets situated at each end of the train carriages.

What happens once I get off the train?

Your tour guide will meet you at the train station (either Mallaig or Fort William, depending on the tour) and assist your group in returning to the coach to resume your journey.
