Doune Castle (Castle Leoch)

It would've helped to have seen more of Outlander beforehand, but it certainly wasn't necessary to enjoy the experience. Liz was fantastic - a great driver and a wonderful guide. She shared interesting facts and did everything possible to make the trip enjoyable.

From time to time, castles may close due to filming activity, in which case we'll visit an alternative attraction with Outlander connections.
If you’ve booked a castle add-on and it’s affected by a closure, you’ll get access to the alternative attraction at no extra cost. If you haven’t pre-booked a castle visit, tickets for the alternative attraction can be purchased on site.

Are there toilet facilities on the coach?
While our coaches don't offer onboard toilets, rest assured that our itineraries include regular comfort stops, allowing frequent access to restroom facilities.
Are your tours accessible?
Our guides are unable to assist with wheelchairs or provide physical assistance during boarding or disembarking from the coach. Passengers should be capable of boarding and disembarking independently using the access stairs or with the help of a traveling companion. Foldable wheelchairs can be stored in our onboard luggage storage during travel.

Set off on your Outlander tour from Glasgow and head straight to Doune Castle*, known to fans as Castle Leoch, the home of Clan MacKenzie. Explore this impressive 14th-century fortress and imagine life in the Highlands as it was in the series.
Next, visit Culross, the setting for the fictional Cranesmuir. Wander the cobbled streets and see Claire’s herb garden. This picturesque village is a highlight for fans of both history and Outlander.
In Falkland, explore the town that doubled as 1940s Inverness. Enjoy a leisurely lunch and explore iconic landmarks like the Bruce Fountain, where the ghost of Jamie first appeared in Outlander’s opening episode.
Our next stop is Midhope Castle*, known as Lallybroch, Jamie’s ancestral home. Here, you can stroll around the peaceful estate and capture photos of this iconic setting. While you can’t step inside the castle, simply standing before Lallybroch feels like being a part of the show!

Blackness Castle Entry

Blackness Castle is an impressive 15th century fortress that resembles the shape of a ship, hence it’s nickname ‘'the ship that never sailed’. Originally, the castle was home to the Crichton family in the 1440s as well as serving as a state prison. Outlander fans recognise the castle as the filming location for Fort William, home to Captain Jack Randal’s worst acts of violence. It has also featured in the filming of Mary Queen of Scots and Outlaw King. Tickets are subject to availability.
Midhope Castle Grounds Entry
Reserve at the time of booking
Visit the magical grounds of Midhope Castle, a beautiful tower house dating back to the 15th century. The castle featured in the Outlander TV series as Lallybroch; the family home of heroic heartthrob Jamie Fraser. While the interior is derelict, a selfie outside the instantly recognisable castle is a must for any Outlander fan. Tickets are subject to availability.
Doune Castle Entry

Built in the 14th century, the stronghold of Doune Castle is famous for having appeared in Monty Python, Game of Thrones, and Outlander. Be it the set for Winterfell as the home of Starks or the idyllic Castle Leoch as the seat of Clan MacKenzie, you will discover familiar filming locations in and around the castle as you ascend the battlements for views of distant mountains.
