What Other Explorers Say
Torquil was an excellent, fun guide with a lot of knowledge and entertaining stories. I also appreciated his custom-cultivated music playlist that matched the area/scenery and how it improved the atmosphere. Torquil clearly loves his job and puts his heart and soul into it which makes it an incredibly enjoyable experience. We had snowy weather which meant some changes to the itinerary but Torquil didn't miss a beat and still showed us some other great places.

05/01/2026Sonia was amazing!!! She played local bands and folk music, explained everything to detail and was incredibly charismatic to add on cultural facts and nearby suggestions. ¡Muchas gracias, Sonia! ♥️

05/01/2026What can i say? This tour was absolutely amazing! I was travelling as a group of 9 (2 families, 4 adults 5 kids) and all of us loved our time. Firstly Skye and the Highlands are beyond beautiful, the accommodation at the Skye Inn was wonderful and in a good location in Portree. The tour group was capped at 16 which is a good number I feel as its a smaller group.

04/01/2026This was such a fantastic tour and our guide, Torquil, was so friendly, fun and informative. There was so much packed into 3 days and although the snowy weather affected the planned route slightly, there was always something else available to do and enjoy. The accommodation was comfortable and friendly and while driving there were plenty of stops for photos, food and the like.

04/01/2026Absolutely amazing. Torquil was a great host and made this an amazing experience for all of us. His knowledge and storytelling was fantastic. Loved seeing him in his kilt and great that he was a local hebridean man.

04/01/2026Emily was the best tour guide we could ever ask for! Her tour style was relaxed and lighthearted, and she regaled us with a lovely mix of historical facts, legends, and stories. Such a fun trip on a very comfy bus. Emily made a good tour great.

16/11/2025Three of us went on the three-day Winter Isle of Skye tour from Inverness, and the experience was fabulous. The scenery was stunning, the mini-bus clean and comfortable, as was the overnight accommodation in Portree. The stops were well planned, and our tour guide (Torqui McCloud) was very friendly and knowledgeable, making the trip one of the best we have ever experienced. We have been on many excursions in this country and abroad, and he was outstanding.

Winter Isle of Skye & Loch Ness Itinerary & Map
Day 1
Inverness to Portree
We set off from Inverness and trace the misty shores of Loch Ness. Look out for ‘Nessie’ as we stop at the hauntingly beautiful ruins of Urquhart Castle, overlooking the deep, dark waters. We continue to the charming village of Fort Augustus at the southern tip of Loch Ness. Head south through dramatic glens before visiting the historic Commando Memorial and view Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, from afar.
Next, we make our way to the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct – famed for its appearance in the Harry Potter films – where you can take in views of the Glenfinnan Monument standing proudly at the head of Loch Shiel. We then journey through the rugged terrain of Glen Shiel, surrounded by towering peaks and tales of Jacobite history. Crossing the Skye Bridge to the Isle of Skye, we continue through the marvellous Cuillin Mountains before reaching our overnight destination in Portree.
Day 2
Isle of Skye
We start our morning with a refreshing walk to the Fairy Pools*. At this time of year, the dark basalt rock and rushing waters of the River Brittle take on a truly magical, moody feel. Along the way, you’ll hear tales of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s daring escape after the Jacobite uprising, before we reach the village of Dunvegan for lunch time.
Our Isle of Skye tour continues to the haunting landscapes of the Quiraing – a mountainous terrain shaped by ancient landslips steeped in folklore. The road north brings us to the striking cliffs of Kilt Rock and the windswept viewpoint of the Old Man of Storr. We return to Portree in the late afternoon, with free time to enjoy the peaceful harbour and local shops before dinner.
*Due to its remote location, our visit to the Fairy Pools may be subject to weather and road conditions.
Day 3
Portree to Inverness
We depart the Isle of Skye and make our way to the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, set on a small island in a sea loch. Continuing south-west, we soak in the sweeping winter landscapes before pausing for lunch in the charming village of Beauly.
Refreshed, we visit a Highland whisky distillery to enjoy a warming dram and discover the craft behind Scotland’s beloved ‘water of life’. Next, we explore Culloden Battlefield, the site of the final Jacobite rising – a powerful stop with deep roots in Scotland’s past. Our journey finishes with a visit to the ancient standing stones of Clava Cairns, familiar to many as the inspiration behind the TV series Outlander. We then cross back to Inverness in the early evening, concluding our winter Isle of Skye tour.
